Ink-stamps and number of (brief) glosses by the Ga'on Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Leaf 304/1 contains stamp of Rabbi"Yosef Shmuel¦ Landau" - The Ga'on Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Landau (1800-1837), son of Rabbi Yisrael Yona Landau who wrote Ma'on HaBrachot, succeeded his father in the Kempna Rabbinate. Author of Kur HaBchina (for additional information related to him see: Personalities in the Chatam Sofer Resposna, pages 395-396). Last leaf contains handwritten notation:"Received this as a gift from the Ga'on¦ [Rabbi] Shmuel Yosef Landau". Number of [cut off] glosses in Italian handwriting.
Rabbi Binyamin ben Rabbi Matitya (1475-1545), rabbi in Arta, Turkey. His rulings involved urgent halachic questions and matters which arose after the Spanish expulsion. This book became one of the most fundamental books in Halacha, and the Halachic masters, including the Rama and the Shach, cite it numerously in their writings.
367, [2], 376-399, 399-575 leaves (title-page missing and completed in Oriental handwriting). 20 cm (this edition was printed in two formats, the following is the small format). Good-fair condition. Stains, detached leaves, few moth stains. Censorship erasures on leaf 530. Remnants of wax stamp and hole in last leaf. Tear with omission of text on first index leaf. Restoration in number of leaves. Ancient and ornamented leather binding, with damages, spine split into two.
