About 730 documents, letters and paper items, handwritten and printed, concerning Jewish congregations in the towns of Pitești and Botoşani. Pitești, Botoşani and Bucharest, 1910s to 1940s (most are from 1920s-30s). Romanian and some Yiddish, a few items in Hebrew.
The collection includes:
• Some 650 items from Pitești, among them: about 45 letter on behalf of the "Union of Jewish Congregations of the Old Kingdom" (Uniunea Comunitatilor Evreesti Din Vechiul Regat) to the congregation of Pitești; some 30 letters and booklets on behalf of "Union of Romanian Jews" (Uniunea Evreilor Pământeni); receipt booklet for charity donations, ink-stamped by the Jewish congregation in Pitești; broadside from December 1941, forbidding Jews to go out of their homes (printed on behalf of the Pitești municipality); tens of receipts (among them receipts of typographers, furniture stores, carpentry, firewood and other craftsmen), payment orders, financial documents, correspondence with craftsmen, merchants and institutions directors, ephemera and other items.
• About 80 items from Botoşani, among them: two calendars for the years 1929-30 and 1941-42, (Yiddish); three wall notices with lists of candidates for the elections to the congregation management; seven certificates of death; letters, receipts and other items.
The items are arranged in five filing folders (four with items from Pitești, and one with items from Botoşani).
Size and condition vary, good overall condition.
