Greenberg, Uri Zvi [ed]. Albatross, Zhurnal Far Dem Nayem Dichter un Kinstler Oysdruk [Periodical for Modern Poetry and Artistic Expression]. Warsaw, 1922.
First issue of the modern Yiddish periodical "Albatross," known for its significant influence on Yiddish literary circles and on Jewish modernism.
An important association copy: On the inside of the front cover is a handwritten dedication by the editor, the poet Uri Zvi Greenberg, to the artist Marc Schwartz, the illustrator of this issue.
A modernistic revolutionary essay by Uri Zvi Greenberg in this issue [Manifest to the Opponents to Modern Poetry] did not evade the eyes of the authorities, who reacted upon the appearance of the second issue by issuing an order prohibiting its publication and by confiscating all its copies. Following this incident, Greenberg left for Berlin, and from there moved to Eretz Israel in 1924 where he continued writing, in Hebrew. Cover design by Ze'ev (Vladislav) Weintraub. Includes linocuts by Marc Schwartz. 19 pp, 36 cm. Fair-good condition. Dry and fragile paper. Minor tears. Detached covers.
