R. Pinchas HaLevi Horowitz, Baal HaHaflaah (1731-1805), close disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch, along with his brother R. Shmelka of Nikolsburg. For more than 30 years, he served as Rabbi of Frankfurt am Main, and taught many disciples, most famously the Chatam Sofer.
His son, R. Tzvi Hirsch HaLevi Horowitz, author of the Machaneh Levi (ca. 1746-1817), Rabbi of Frankfurt am Main, succeeding his father R. Pinchas. Known for his sharp wit, he corresponded with contemporary Torah giants such as R. Akiva Eiger.
