Manuscript of Chiddushei Torah by Rabbi Yosef Bechor Banbanishti, rabbinical emissary of Hebron to Tripoli. 1888. Oriental handwriting; writer signed several times"Yosef known as Bechor Ben Venishti", stating that he is a rabbinical emissary of the holy city of Hebron. He notes that he is situated in Tripoli, Libya.
The Chiddushim were sent to Rabbi Chaim HaCohen, rabbi of Tripoli, Libya; requesting that he add them to his book Lev Shome'a (Livorno, 1885), apparently, the Chiddushim were not printed in the book. Throughout the Chiddushim he mentions discussions which he had with Rabbi Chaim HaCohen and with his friend Rabbi"He'ach Nafshenu" regarding glosses written on the book of his grandfather Yishrei Lev [Eliyahu Chazan, publisher and proofreader of books of his grandfather, Rabbi Chaim David Chazan]. Apparently, the writer was among the disciples of Rabbi Chaim David Chazan.
Rabbi Yosef Bechor son of Rabbi Rachamim Schneur Banbanishti (1840-1916, Otzar HaRabbanim 8733), born in Jerusalem in 1840; in 1874 was sent as emissary of Jerusalem and in 1883 was sent as emissary of Hebron. In 1900 served as chief Av Beit Din of the Sephardic congregation of Jerusalem.
[1] leaf folded into four, 8 written columns, approx. 10X26 cm. Fair condition, wear and damages.
