The Ga'on Rabbi Ya'akov Yokev Ettlinger (1798-1872, Otzar Ha-Rabanim 9805), chief rabbi of Altona and its provinces, a prominent leader of German Jewry and an opposer to the reform. Author of the books: "Aruch La-Ner" – on Mishnah tractates, "Bikurei Ya'akov", "Binyan Zion" book of responsum, "Minchat Ani" – on the Torah, and more. Founder and editor of the orthodox journal "Shomer Zion Ha-Ne'eman". Leading rabbis in Germany were his disciples amongst them Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch and Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer.
