Sefer Chofetz Chaim, laws of Shmirat HaLashon “laws of slander and gossip, based upon Halacha derived from the Talmud and Poskim”. Vilna, 1873. First edition. First book of Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen of Radin, which was published anonymously; name of author listed on margins of title page in Russian and in initials.
Several revisions and glosses in handwriting of author. Page 46 contains revision of 6 words in holy handwriting of Rabbi; page 159 contains gloss of 8 words in holy handwriting of Rabbi. [Revisions were made to the second edition based upon these revisions, Vilna 1877]. Signature and ownership notations of the Ga’on Rabbi" Moshe Nachum" Wallenstein (1841-1922), disciple of the Ktav Sofer and Av Beit Din of Jerusalem.
5, [1], 8-81 leaves, [missing 4 leaves with list of subscribers which were added to some of the copies]. 21.5 cm. Fair condition, extensive moth damage. Old worn binding.
