Ten black-and-white illustrations by Eliezer (El) Lissitzky to the song "Chad Gadya". Title page also illustrated. Front cover shows the title page illustration, printed in blue and red.
In the book illustrations Lissitzky incorporates, in his unique style, symbols from the Jewish world and from Russian culture, expressing his belief of the time that the Communist revolution will bring salvation. The book was first published in 1919 (with color illustrations), in 75 copies. The second edition, seen here, was printed in 1000 copies, in a format differing from that the first edition.
