A volume compiling about 200 handwritten letters, exchanged between Julius Basch and his fiancée Ida Bernuard. Lüben and Lissa, Poland, 1854. German and some Yiddish.
The letters are from the year prior to the couple's wedding, written on paper with curly margins, decorated with flowers and other colorful decorations. On the first leaf - a three-stanza poem has been added, and on the last leaf a short epilogue (both are signed "Julius Basch" and dated 1857 and 1866 respectively). About ten letters are signed "Jacob" (Ida's brother?).
Enclosed: a silk fabric with a printed poem in German composed for the wedding (printed by Ernst Gunther in Lissa, 1855).
Size of letters varies, volume: 22.5 cm. Condition varies. Overall good condition. Stains, folding marks and small tears at margins of some letters. Some letters with detached pieces. One letter with rough tears.
