Book of caricatures by Caran d'ache (pseudonym of Emmanuel Poiré, 1858-1909)' French artist and painter of political caricatures, a pioneer of the art of comics and caricature.
The caricatures in this book relate to the "Panama Case", the most significant economic corruption case in the Third French Rrepublic in the year 1892 (the French government was bribed to keep as a secret the economic hardships of the "Panama Channel Society").
Most figures that are seen holding money bills or bribe are with anti-semitic characteristics (fat people, long noses or people in disguise). The book's leaves look like bank checks. French.
[24] leaves, 27.5 X 12.5 cm. Good condition. Few stains. Restored binding a little loose and damaged.
