Birkat David, Rabbi David of Tolna, First Edition, Zhitomir 1862 – Special Elaborate Copy

Opening: $1,500
Unsold
Birkat David, Chassidic and Kabbalistic homilies on the Torah and festivals, by Rebbe David of Tolna. Zhitomir, 1862. Printed by Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heshel Shapira grandsons of the Rabbi of Slavita. Two title pages and two introductions; printed front cover (title page) and back cover.
First edition printed during the life of the author Rabbi David Twersky of Tolna (1908-1982), son of Rebbe Mordechai of Chernobyl. In his introduction, the author, known as a miracle worker, writes this blessing: "we shall merit complete future joy, and the effects of all blessings without pause".
Slight variations exist between the two title pages and the two introductions. The title pages and the introductions are almost identical with the exception of typographic changes and slight changes of wording in the titles of the author and his holy fathers. This does not explain the riddle, why the title pages and introductions were doubled and whether or not this was done according to the author's instructions.
[1], [4], 143, [1] pages. 22 cm. Wide margins. Good condition, high-quality paper. Stains caused by usage, and slight wear. Original ancient leather binding, with gilt impressions.
Sterfansky Chassidut, no. 101. The printed covers are especially rare.
