A few printings of Part I are known, this version is from the printing where leaves are not numbered (apart from leaf 9, 11-12, 17-21) and the last line on the title-page is "On Ethics of the Fathers".
Of the first and most fundamental Hasidic books. The Ba'al Shem Tov's philosophy.
Owners' signatures on title-page and on page [3]: Rabbi "Shmuel Haler" and Rabbi "Moshe Deitsch, son-in-law of R' Haler".
The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Haler (1786-1883) was raised in the house of the "Seer of Lublin" who instructed him to go to Eretz Yisrael. Rabbi of Safed for sixty years. (Otzar Harabbanim 19134). His biography and the story of the Yishuv in Safed are recounted in the book "The Rabbi the Leader and the Doctor" (Safed 1988).

According to Bibliography Institute CD it is possible that the book was printed in Galicia, in Zholkiev ca.1840. With approbations from the first edition of the years 1803-1808.

Neta Sha'ashu'im, responsum book on the four parts of Shulchan Aruch, by Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Kara, Zholkiev, 1829. Notes by author's son Rabbi Yechiel Aichel and letters of response from the generation's scholars.
Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Kara, Av Beit Din in Buczacz and one of the outstanding scholars of his generation (1740-1814 Otzar Ha-Rabbanim 17447) was the father-in-law of Rebbe Avraham David Wahrman, Rabbi of Buczacz, who wrote Birkat David, Eshel Avraham, and Da'at Kdoshim, and many of his father-in-law's novellae are quoted in his works.
Ownership ink-stamp on title-page (with a picture of an eagle) Rabbi "M.AL Alter Jones Rabbin Bacau" in Hebrew and in foreign letters.
Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Leib Alter (Baharav), (1810-1873), a leading rabbi in Moldova, maintained correspondence with the Malbim. He was born thanks to the blessing of Rebbe Chaim of Tchernovitz who blessed his father that thanks to his involvement in releasing captives, he would be given a son that will be an outstanding rabbi (see enclosed material). He wrote Divrei Moshe, which contains laws of Brit Milah and halachic responsum

Sefer Or Hachaim by Rabbi Yoseph Ya'avetz. Zholkiev 1848.
An essay against studying philosophy with comments called "Ma'ayan Ganim" by Rebbe Tzvi Elimelech Shapira of Dinov.
Rabbi Yoseph Ya'avetz (approx 1438-1507) was a Sephardic scholar from the time of the expulsion. After the expulsion from Spain and Lisbon he settled in Mantova. His books and commentary on Pirkei Avot were widely circulated. In this book he fiercely attacks the study of philosophy. He claims that at times of religious persecution the educated Jews were the first ones to convert, whereas the simple uneducated Jews withstood the test and were martyred.
The Rebbe Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Shapira of Dinov (1783-1841) was a disciple of the Seer of Lublin and Rabbi Menahem Mendel of Riminov. He wrote "Bnei Yissachar" and many other books. The Munkacz Dynasty is descended from him.

In Vayikra, leaf 3, there is an introduction by the author and approbation by his teacher, Rebbe Yitzchak Isa'ac of Zidichov. [This leaf is rare and missing in many copies – see Bibliography Institute CD, listing 0311493].
