Hanukkah lamp. [Possibly France, 19th century].
Cast and embossed silver. Marked (rooster hallmark); maker's mark: Fraget.
Gate-shaped lamp. The entire structure surmounts four animal paws spread to the sides; at the top of each paw are two animal heads. Frame featuring large fowl and floral decorations. Near the column bases are the oil fonts, shaped as rectangular, removable small boxes, with pyramidal lids topped by wick tubes.
Behind the fonts, a pair of massive pillars supports the ceiling, on which stand a pair of lions and a vase with flowers and acorns. The shamash and an oil jug are suspended from the ceiling by bent silver threads.
Suspended at the bottom of the oil jug is a ring with a bird in its center. Missing a peacock-shaped decoration between the two pillars.
The Polish Fraget company was founded by the French brothers Joseph and Alphonse Fraget in 1824; around 1845, Alphonse left the company and returned to France. It is possible that this lamp was made by Alphonse Fraget in France, ca. mid-19th century.
Length: 33 cm, maximum width: 23.5 cm. Good condition. Missing peacock decoration between the two pillars.
