Leaf remnants removed from the "binding geniza": two leaves with the signatures of Rabbi Ya'akov Abuhatzeira, the Abir Ya'akov of Morocco, and two leaves related to him and to his family.
Four leaf remnants:
1. A piece of paper, with the signature: "Purchased with my money Ya'akov Abuhatzeira". Under the signature are inscriptions with curly signatures, including a signature of "Shlomo Chayun" [Rabbi Shlomo Chayum, Rabbi in Tafilalt, disciple and friend of Rabbi Ya'akov Abuhatzeira].
2. Lower half of a monetary shtar, from Sunday, the 18th of Iyar 1835, signed by Ya'akov Abuhatzeira.
3. Section of a letter to "The excellent Dayan…R' Ya'akov Abuhatzeira…".
4. A piece of paper with mention of "Avraham son of R' Masud Abuhatzeira".
Rabbi Ya'akov Abuhatzeira (1906-1980) - the Abir Ya'akov was known from his youth as an outstanding holy man and Torah prodigy and proficient Kabbalist. Rabbi and Av Beit Din in the Tafilalt community [the central community in the area of the Ziz Valley in Southern Morocco]. When only in his twenties, most of the rabbis of the region submitted to his authority. Rabbi Ya'akov was considered one of the leading Torah authorities of his times and exchanged halachic responsa with leading rabbis throughout North African countries. A holy man, accustomed to miracles, many wondrous stories are told about him; including his distinction in meriting the revelation of Eliyahu (see Ma'ase Nissim, Jerusalem 1968, written according to stories and information heard directly from the Baba Sali and other rabbis of the Abuhatzeira family). His fame also spread among the non-Jewish population and the Muslims would reverently call him "Alchazan el Kabir" [the Great Rabbi].
He died on the way to Eretz Israel and was buried in the city of Damanhur, Egypt.
Some of his works: Ginzei HaMelech, Yagel Ya'akov, Yoru Mishpatecha L'Ya'akov responsa, Pituchei Chotam, Bigdei HaSrad, Machsof HaLavan, many more.
Dozens of piyyutim were composed in his honor and memory, some common until today among Moroccan Jews. The famous picture of him sitting with his legs crossed, with a holy book in his hands, hangs in numerous homes in Morocco and in Eretz Israel to this day.
His sons and grandchildren were renowned for their holiness and Torah knowledge. The most famous are Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, the Baba Sali and his brother Rabbi Yitzchak the Baba Chaki, Rabbi Meir Abuhatzeira the Baba Meir and many other important rabbis and wonder-workers.

Notebook of Shtarot, with rental contracts. Fez (Morocco), 1897-1898.
More than 150 shtarot, dated with curly calligraphic signatures of the Dayanim and Torah scholars of Fez: Rabbi Yosef HaLevi Ibn Yuli, Rabbi Shlomo Sassoon, Rabbi Shem Tov Ibn Attar, Rabbi Refael ben Attar, Rabbi David Eliyahu Harush.
At the beginning of the notebook is an index of the names of the tenants (approximately 150 names of Fez residents at the end of the 19th century).
Some leaves have tears on the signatures, cancelling the shtar. On a few shtarot, the signatures are torn off.

· Copy of a list of dowry assets from 1865, signed by Sefrou rabbis: Rabbi Refael Moshe Elbaz and Rabbi Yeshu'a Ageini. Another document appears on the same leaf about dividing inherited property, from 1877, signed by the dayanim: Rabbi Chaim Eliyahu and Rabbi Refael Moshe Elbaz. The ruling appears on the margins signed by Fez rabbis: Rabbi Matityahu Siriro and another signature. · Leaf with a list of people. · Leaf with a list of books.
