Printed leaf, call to support the construction of the Churva of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid in Jerusalem, by the heads of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem, with the addition of the recommendation of London rabbis. [London, 1839]. Hebrew and English, on facing pages. Letter for emissary Rabbi Aharon Zelig Ashkenazi, sent to collect donations for the construction of the synagogue of the Churva of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid. The original letter is dated the 18th of Adar 1837. The letter relates that the Churva courtyard had been returned to Jewish hands and the Beit Midrash Menachem Zion had already been built there. Even a Torah scroll had been placed inside the Beit Midrash, but the center of the courtyard still stands in ruins and is waiting to be built. Signed are the heads of the Ashkenazim Perushim Kollel [disciples of the Vilna Gaon] in Jerusalem. On the margin of the left column are English approbations, by the members of the Sephardi Beit Din in London. On the margin of the right column is an authorization of the rabbis of the London Beit Din and an English appeal by the emissary himself. The construction of the Churva synagogue was delayed because of lack of funds. Only in 1857, they began its construction until it was completed in 1864. 34X43 cm. Good condition, folding marks. Stains. In the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book , a similar leaf is recorded with a German addition by Berlin rabbis from 1841 [written there: Berlin? 1840], but this leaf was not listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book.
