Torah mantle. [Ottoman Empire? Greece? Early 20th century]. Embroidered cotton, embroidery-ribbon, wood, nails. Torah mantle, consists of two parts. Upper part is round, made of wood and covered with fabric, with square openings for Atzei Chayim, decorated with nails and with embroidery-ribbon. Golden fringes at the borders. Mantle with an opening in front, made of (possibly Italian) fabric in a shade of beige, with a delicate embroidery in vegetal patterns, with golden fringes at the borders. A large Star of David is embroidered on the reverse, with a vegetal decoration in the center and two smaller Stars of David with a flower between them. Length: 88 cm, max. width: 88 cm. Fair condition. Holes, tears, unraveled fabric, lacking fringes.

Torah mantle. [Italy, 19th century]. Silk, linen. Torah mantle, exceptional (probably, part of a Torah mantle set). A long sheet of fabric, folded into two, with two holes in the centers decorated with a ribbon, for the “Etz Haim” (handles) of the Torah scroll. The fabric is pink with delicate and fine embroidery of flowers in different colors. Length: 98 cm, width: 40 cm. Good condition, stains to lining.

Made of light blue silk with gold and silver threads embroidery: on one side - the Ten Commandments are embroidered within a floral frame in the shape of the Tablets of the Law; on the reverse and along the borders – varied, rich, vegetal decorations. Torah mantle. [Europe, 19th century]. Cotton and wool threads embroidery on velvet; gold and silver threads. A long and narrow mantle, with two loops on upper part. The front, made of red velvet, is adorned with rich embroidery of leaves and flowers with gold and silver threads. Large gryphon holding a branch with a flower – on top and on the bottom. 72X41 cm. Fair-good condition. Unraveled threads and wear to cotton fabric, some decorations are lacking. It is possible that the back sheet and loops are not original.

Mappa – textile decoration for cantor’s pillar (“Amud”). Gomel, Belaruss, ca. 1880 (dedication from the year 1880). Green velvet, gold-thread embroidery. Square textile, green, with golden fringes. In the center appears an inscription: “donation… / from the women /… / Gomel / 1880…” The inscription is surrounded by four stars and an embroidered floral decoration, with small metal ornamentations. 115X128 cm. Embroidered Chuppah (wedding canopy). Bodenbach, Germany, 1898. Red and brown velvet; sky-blue satin; embroidery in golden threads. Golden stars are embroidered on bluish satin on the inner side of the chuppah (above the couple’s heads during the wedding ceremony). In the center, within a frame embroidered in vegetal pattern, appears an embroidered inscription: “Kodesh LeHashem…1898…”. The chuppah has four indented wings, embroidered in German, with golden threads (the inscription is turned outwards): “Gespendetvom isr. Frauen verein / Bodenbach / Zum Regierungsjubiläum 1898 / Gesegnet die da kommen im Namen des Herrn!” [donated by the union of women in Bodenbach… 1898… welcome in the name of G-d!]. The word “Bodenbach” is encircled with embroidered stars. Four openings in the corners for the chuppah poles. 115X128 cm. Good-fair condition. Embroidery in good condition. Holes and damages to satin. Tears. Wear around the openings for poles.

Torah Ark Curtain – Parochet. Böttenzaas (?), (Germany?), dedication from 1884. Silver thread embroidery on velvet. Parochet is made of purple velvet. A large embossed embroidery of a Torah Crown appears on top with the letters “כ”ת” (Keter Torah). A dedication is embroidered below: “by Haim ben Shmuel Prager…. In honor of the Böttenzaas synagogue 1884”. 160X118 cm. Fair-poor condition. Tears, stains and unraveling.

Parochet (Torah Ark Curtain) and Torah Ark Kaporet (Smaller upper curtain). [Poland? Moravia?] 1820. Parochet and Kaporet made of silk brocade of good quality, with a repeated vegetal pattern, with sequins and silver threads. On the upper part of the Parochet, within a frame made of silver fabric ribbons, appears a dedication: “May G-d remember…my wife…”. The text consists of sewn fabric ribbons. Fringes. On the Kaporet appears the inscription “Keter Torah”, decorated with ribbons and fringes; a small button in the center with Stars of David embroidered in silver threads. Fringes. Parochet: 190X140 cm. Good-fair condition. Some tears. Stains. Loops for hanging. Kaporet: 150X28 cm. Good condition. Loops for hanging. Sewn on linen lining.

Torah ark curtain (Parochet). [Italy, 19th century]. Parochet is made of several kinds of fabric sewn together, all with floral and vegetal patterns: golden background, light floral strips in the center and on the right and left edges, green and some dark fabric in the center. Tablets of the Law appear on the upper part, embroidered with the Ten Commandments. Loops for hanging. 205X130 cm (originally the Parochet was 265 cm long but was shortened – bottom part was folded and sewn). Overall good condition. Two dark stains (approx. 20X25 cm) on lower part, with damage to fabric. Seventeen wimpels (Torah binders) for a Torah scroll. Germany, France, Johannesburg, 1799-1917. Linen; felt-tip pens and gouache paints; colorful ribbons. Ten wimpels are from the 19th century. All are colored, except for one which is embroidered. The quality of painting and of the letters varies; most wimpels are folk-art, home-made. Drawings of animals were added to some as well as visual depictions of the Torah, chuppah, bride and groom. On some wimpels a name of a newborn appears in Latin characters. Average width: three meters. Overall condition – fair. Holes and stains to many of the wimpels.
