HaTzfira, "periodical transmitting news…matters of state, science, world news and nature", edited by Haim Zelig Slonimsky. Warsaw, 1862; Berlin, 1874. Volumes of first and second year issues.
• First year, Warsaw, 1862; issues 1-25 (issue 14 is incomplete; lacking in the end).
• Second year (Title: "First year"), Berlin, 1874; issues 1-25.
"HaTzfira" - first Hebrew paper in Poland during the Russian regime and one of the most important papers printed in east Europe. It was founded in Warsaw in 1862, but the period's events - the Polish revolt in 1863 and the fact that the editor Slonimsky became a supervisor of a seminary for rabbis in Zhitomir - resulted in the discontinuation of the paper after six months and twenty five issues only. Slonimsky resumed the appearance of HaTzfira in 1874 in Berlin, and one year later the editorial returned to Warsaw and stayed there throughout its existence. Two volumes, ca.30 cm. Condition varies. Stains, creases and tears. Some restorations. Ex-library copies.

Halevanon, "announces and informs about everything necessary for a Jewish person to know, if he is Jewish". Published by Yehiel Brill. Paris, December 1864 through December 1867.
Volume of second, third and fourth year issues. • Second year: issues 1-24. The first twelve pages of the first issue are missing and replaced with photocopies. • Third year: issues 1-24. • Fourth year: issues 1-24. Last leaf of last issue is missing.
“Halevanon” edited by Yechiel Brill, was of the first Hebrew newspapers in Eretz Israel. It was published intermittently, and not regularly, during the years 1863-1886 in Jerusalem, Paris, Mainz and London.
"Halevanon" was founded in Jerusalem by Yehiel Brill, Michal Hacohen and Yoel Moshe Salomon and was considered the first paper of the Ashkenazi-Perushim (Mitnagdim) in the city. Following its foundation, a competing paper was founded in Jerusalem: "HaChavatzelet", edited by Israel Frumkin and printed by Israel Bak representing the Hasidim and Sephardic Jews in Jerusalem. The competition between the two papers was so fierce that one year after their foundation, in 1864, mutual transfer of information to the Turkish regime led to the closure of both. A year later Brill resumed the publication of "Halevanon" in Paris, where it was published in the years 1865-1870, until the siege on Paris during the France-Prussia war, led to its discontinuation. Later on it was published in Mainz and London.
Volume, 21 cm. Condition varies. Most issues in good condition. Some issues in poor condition, detached or torn. Damaged binding.

Collection of issues of "Aleph", a periodical edited by Aharon Amir, Uriel Shelach (Yonatan Ratosh) and Avshalom Hofshi. Israel, 1950-1972.
1-19. Issues no. 1-19, April 1950 - April 1953.
20-22. Issues of November 1971, January 1972, May 1972.
The periodical "Aleph" of "HaIvrim HaTze'irim" movement (formerly "HaVaad LeGibush HaNo'ar HaIvri") was published and edited by Aharon Amir and Yonatan Ratosh together with other movement members and their associates including Adaya Horon (A.G. Horon), Uzi Ornan [Ratosh's brother], Amos Keinan, Binyamin Tamuz and others. The movement was founded in 1939, and reached its peak in Eretz Israel in the 1940s, influencing political thought, art, literature and intellectual life in Eretz Israel and the State of Israel. The members tried to draw a line between people who lived in Eretz Israel in the second millennium BCE, and the Jewish people in the 20th century, while trying to create a new-old culture, and disengage from Jewish tradition. The name "Canaanites" was chosen, somewhat ironically, by the poet Avraham Shlonsky. 34 cm. Overall good condition. Minor tears. Ex-library copies.

Franz Kafka / Gesammelte Schriften. Herausgegeben von Max Brod. Berlin: Schocken, 1935; Prague: Heinr. Mercy Sohn, 1936-1937. Seven volumes. First edition. German.
The collected works of Franz Kafka, edited by Max Brod. Including Kafka's biography composed by Brod. The first four volumes were printed in Berlin in 1935 and the three last volumes were printed in Prague.
Max Brod and Franz Kafka were close friends for many years. Kafka, who suffered from tuberculosis and anticipated his death, left his work to Brod, along with the explicit instruction that the unpublished work should be destroyed on Kafka’s death.
Brod, who was appointed as executor of Kafka's will, ignored the request and published all of Kafka's writings after his death, including the three novels "The Trial", "The Castle" and "The Man who disappeared". Brod also published Kafka's diaries and wrote his biography. In 1933 publication of works by Jewish writers was forbidden in Germany. "Schocken" - Jewish Publishing House - was the only one to have a permit to publish Jewish writers, on condition that their books were sold only to Jews. At the time, Max Brod, through Dr. Schpitzer, granted “Schocken” the copyrights to Kafka’s writings. The first four volumes, published by “Schocken”, were printed in Germany in 1935. Later, Kafka and Brod’s names were added by the Nazi regime to the list of excommunicated authors. As a result the publishing house transferred part of its operation to Prague where the last three volumes were printed. Seven volumes, 19.5 cm. Overall good condition. Ownership inscriptions. Minor damages to bindings. Kafka’s signature is embossed on the bindings.
