An unauthorized English translation of Tom Seidmann-Freud’s celebrated first didactic book, “Hurra wir lesen! Hurra wir schreiben!” [Hurray we read! Hurray we write!], which was published in Germany in 1930. Numerous black and white illustrations by Seidmann-Freud, for coloring, and pages for practicing reading and writing.

Part B includes "Special picture plates" – eleven plates (some folding) with illustrations by Gabriel Tchorney: school stationary, dormitory, dining room, wheat, flour and bread, the tree, synagogue, apartment and cooking utensils, the horse, cow, animals. (Plate 5 is missing).

1. Gan HeChayot Le'ezrat Yaldey Israel [The Zoo Assisting Israel's Children]. Written by L. Kipnis, illustrated and cut by D. Gilboa. Tel-Aviv: "Kufsia" M. Anabi printing press, 1940s.
The book tells the story of four children's dreams, dreamt after a visit to the zoo. In their dreams the situation of European Jews during the Holocaust is described, and in each dream a different animal helps to save Jews and bring them to Eretz Israel.
The book opens from its upper side; printed on heavy cardboard leaves. From each opening between two cardboard sheets pop-up illustrated parts accompanying the text. M.Anabi printing press also printed the children's book "The Zoo" with identical illustrations by David Gilboa and a different text – songs for children by Levine Kipnis. (See "Kedem" catalogue, auction no. 18, item no. 264). [5] leaves, 23.5X16.5 cm. Good condition. Spots. Minor damages to some of the pop up parts.

Two printed books. Each book consists of two cardboard sheets, with pop-up illustrations (in one – illustration of elephants and of monkeys in the zoo; both illustrations are identical to the illustrations in "The Zoo Assisting Israel's Children"). Short texts in English, with didactic messages, accompany the illustrations. 23.5X16.5 cm. Good condition. Spots. Minor damages.
