Diaries of Berl Repetur and Heschel (Shlomo) Frumkin, concerning the "Conquest of Work" by Jews in Eretz Israel, January through April 1932.
Typewritten leaves (carbon copies) and bundles of leaves, handwritten, with the titles "Diary of B. Repetur” and "Diary of H. Frumkin".
The diaries contain daily reports about the activities of Repetur and Frumkin aimed at integrating Jewish workers in various construction and industry enterprises all around Eretz Israel, based on the ideology encouraging "Jewish Work". In the diaries appear summaries of meetings, statistical data, detailed numbers of Jewish workers versus Arab workers, progress of projects, and more; outlined are the activities of Arlozorov, David [Ben-Gurion], Moshe [Shertok], Rokach, Berl Katzenelson, Margolin, Abba Hushi, Ussishkin, Arthur Ruppin and others. The diaries are an interesting testimony about the struggle of the Yishuv leaders to arrange work for Olim, encouraging at the same time the production and acquisition of local products.
Heschel Frumkin (1896-1974) – one of the "Histadrut" founders and one of its economists; Berl Repetur (1902-1989) – one of the "Histadrut" leaders in the Yishuv and in the Israeli State. It seems, from the diaries that the two worked together in the "Contractual Office for Agricultural Works" (founded by the Histadrut), which was founded in response to the unemployment crisis in the country during the absorption of the Fourth Aliya.
Total of hundreds of pages, not numbered, about 30 cm. Arranged in four folders. Overall good condition. Minor creases and tears on the edges.
