Hebrew source followed by Aramaic translation and Jewish-Arabic commentary, verse following verse. On last leaves, Arabic translation of poem “Mi Kamocha Ve’Ein Kamocha” by Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi, and “song for Purim”. This is the first book printed in lithograph in Calcutta [see A. Ya’ari, Hebrew Press in Oriental Countries, Jerusalem 1940, pp. 17-18].

The entire work is written in Arabic and in Arabic letters [except the introduction, approbations, titles and quotations from sources]. Includes a folded board with a sketched "tree" [in red ink] of “Seder Nachalot”. The author, Rabbi Masud ben Shimon (1869-1925), was Head of the Beit Din in Egypt. His brother's son-in-law Rabbi Refael Aharon ben Shimon – Rabbi of Egypt was his right hand and successor in the rabbinate. The book was intentionally written in Arabic to justify the Jewish courts and Hebrew law in the eyes of the government and the Egyptian courts [see "The author's apology" and the approbations].
