Lengthy philosophical poem by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol. It was customary among Jewish congregations to read it on Yom Kippur.
Fine manuscript in square vowelized letters. Contains cardboard binding ornamented with cutting and pasting craftsmanship. Spine of binding: “My book, Avraham Raphael Siroy, written on month of Elul 1859 in city of Cento”.
[25] leaves. 15 cm. Good condition, few stains. Damaged binding.

“Prayer against evil inclination” (from the book Sha’arei Rachamim, cited in the book Yimtza Chaim by Rabbi Chaim Palagi), and additional prayers. Illustrated title page. Front binding contains title illustration in red ink, with eye-shaped frame with words “against evil inclination” inside. Small talismans, verses, Holy Names and Kabbalistic illustrations glued upon inside of back binding.

Ownership notation: “Wise Halachic authority of Ferrara Rabbi Yissaschar Rigio”. Lengthy notation in Italian with Hebrew date 5542 [1782].
Approx. 22 written pages. 19 cm. Fair condition, stains, wear and tear.

Includes Kabbalistic prayer: “Yeheh Rava Min Kadam Stima…”, Shir Shel Yom, Lamnatze’ach. Arranged according to the weekdays. Includes Birkot HaNehenin and Birkat HaMazon.

Lengthy pamphlet by one of the rabbis of Italy. Contains a lengthy response on a Halachic polemic regarding marital relations from the year 1808. At the beginning of the pamphlet the author mentions the “virtue of the scholar David” and “the Moharich” [initials] who disagreed regarding the issue, and he relates: “The Moharich [initials] granted me permission to study the matter to the best of my comprehension and to relate this before his majesty… “. The Moharich who is mentioned is apparently the Ga’on Rabbi Yishma’el HaCohen (1723-1811), among the leading scholars of Italy, Av Beit Din of Medena, author of Zera Emet Responsa.

He writes in his preface: “Upon viewing his invaluable commentaries and Chiddushim, I decided to make it accessible to others to benefit from…”.
Rabbi Shimshon son of Ya’akov Shimshon HaCohen of Modon (1679-1727), among the scholars of Mantua, disciple of Rabbi Yehuda Brail.
