Manuscript, index for the book Kli Yakar on the Torah [by Rabbi Ephraim Shlomo of Luntshtitz], by Rabbi Shimshon Cohen Modon. [Mantua], [1725].
Indexed summary of topics according to 1608 Prague press. Colophon: “Praise G-D… who sustained me and… to complete… on Friday, 18th of Tamuz 1725. Young Shimshon Cohen Modon”. He writes in his preface: “Upon viewing his invaluable commentaries and Chiddushim, I decided to make it accessible to others to benefit from…”.
Rabbi Shimshon son of Ya’akov Shimshon HaCohen of Modon (1679-1727), among the scholars of Mantua, disciple of Rabbi Yehuda Brail. Author of Kol Musar (Mantua, 1725) as well as additional compositions. This is a complete composition which he authored just prior to his death and he did not live to see it printed.

A huge and impressive collection of autographs. Dozens of letters, rulings, halachic responsa, testaments and bills, handwritten and signed by c. 100 rabbis and scholars of Morocco and North Africa. 18th and 19th centuries.
Amongst the writers and those who signed are rabbis of distinguished lineage in Morocco, some of the most prominent rabbis and dayanim who served in Fez, Meknes, Sefrou, Mogador (Essaouira) etc. from the families of Ben Atar, Ebn Tzur, Birdugo, Toledano, Siriro, Monsoneigo etc.
*Shtar Siluk from 1711 signed by Rabbi Yehuda ben Atar – Mohariva (1755-1834, Malkei Rabanan 46, 4), Head of the Fez Beit Din and leader of his generation [relative of the author of the Or HaChaim HaKadosh], author of Minchat Yehuda etc. Moroccan Jews admired him greatly and called him Rabbi Elkabir [Our great rabbi]. The Chida writes of him: "The rabbi was used to miracles and my ears have heard some of the wonders that have happened to him during his life and even after his death… he was thrown to the lions and saved after he stayed with them a day and a night… people used to give oaths in his name and if they gave a false oath they would die".

Manuscript Padah Et Avraham, responsa and novellae, sermons and piyutim, by Rabbi Refael Avraham Kalphon, an eminent Rabbi of Tiberias and Haifa, (1864-1886).
Autographic writing by the author, in handsome Oriental writing, with many additions on the sheets and between the lines. Many author's signatures, some full signatures but most pseudonyms.
~ Letters of responsa sent to various rabbis: Rabbi Menashe Sethon whom he met traveling to Beirut; Rabbi "Yissa Bracha" [apparently, his friend Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Abulafia – a Tiberias Torah scholar, who left a manuscript by that name]. On Leaf 15/2, a section appears in different handwriting starting with the words of "Ish" and at the end, the author writes "These are the words of Rabbi Nehorai 'Ish Kilvavi' and he correctly understood…". Several letters by Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Abulafia are also copied on this manuscript; letters to the Rabbi "Mevin Chochma" [Rabbi Moshe, also a Tiberias rabbi who at that time was an emissary to a different country]; another handwritten halachic query and response signed with a pseudonym, etc.
~ Responsa by Western Torah scholars: Rabbi Yeshua Basis, Rabbi Chai Taib, his uncle Rabbi Moshe HaLevi [he notes that he is copying a responsum from a manuscript that he found while staying by Moharitz Ebn Valid – from my uncle Rabbi Moshe HaLevi].
~ Several piyutim which he wrote, with the acronym of his name Refael Avraham. A piyut for a brit milah and in honor of Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNess, written at the dedication of the building erected over his grave in 1868 – [This piyut was printed in his name in the book "Meir Bat Ayin" (Tunis 1899), but with many differences, see attached photocopy].
Rabbi Avraham Refael Kalphon (1820-1886), a Rabbi of Tituan (Spanish Morocco), immigrated to Tiberias in 1860 and served there as Rosh Yeshiva and dayan. Traveled to Beirut and Istanbul as an emissary and was a leading force behind the aliya movement of Moroccan Jews to Sefad, Haifa and Tiberias. Served for a while as chief Rabbi in Tiberias, but in 1883 moved to Haifa, where he was appointed Head of the Beit Din. His novellae were never printed and remained in manuscript form: Padah et Avraham, and Me'at Ochel on Mishlei and V'Achal V'Chai L'Olam on Tehillim (mentioned in this manuscript, with note of page in manuscript). His son Rabbi Moshe was son-in-law of his renowned disciple Rabbi Refael Ebn Naim, Rabbi of Gibraltar.
