The photographs show: Kovatch’s storefront, next to the offices of “Egged”; “Egged Cars Office” signposts; Kovatch’s shop’s advertising sign; the “Mitzpeh” building in Jaffa Street; shops on one of the city streets [Jaffa Street?]. Marked on the verso to be used as postcards, stamped by the photographer. 8.5x13.5cm. Good condition. Few stains.

Kurt Triest was born in Nürnberg and studied Painting at the Berlin Academy of Art. In 1929 he was already running a photography studio and working as a graphic artist for various newspaper and book publishers in Germany. He moved to Eretz Israel in 1936 and became the “HaBima” theater’s photographer. Opened the “Photo-Temuna” studio with Moshe (Max) Rosenthal. He stopped taking photographs after the establishment of the State of Israel due to an allergy he developed to the chemicals used in photography labs.

Some of the photographs are annotated: "After the conquest of the 'Metzudah' in Shechunat HaTikva", "Dizengoff Street on the day of the Big Curfew", and so on. A few with the photographer's ink-stamp.

Seventeen photographs documenting the Israeli flag raising ceremony marking the end of the British mandate in the city of Haifa and a couple of photographs featuring guard posts from the War of Independence, 1948-1949. Also featured on the photos: [military] service at the Valley of El-Gharbia, guard post on the roof of the Phone Center of Burg Street (five days prior to and on the day of the departure of the British), parade celebrating the end of the British Mandate and the Israeli flag hoisting ceremony, Haifa Police at the Hadar HaCarmel, and preparations for the first Yom HaAtzma’ut parade in Haifa. Between 12.5x18cm and 6x8.5cm. Good, varying condition, stains and wrinkles. Handwritten descriptions.

Photo-album by Shmuel Yosef Schweig (1902-1983) documenting the activity of the [ca. 1956] archaeological research delegation to Sinai headed by Prof. Binyamin Mazar, which researched Sinai and the Santa Caterina (Saint Catherine) Monastery.
Amongst the photographs: the Santa Caterina monastery, the delegation with the head of the monastery, Professors Polotsky, Mazar and Ben Horin in the monastery library, an ancient manuscript leaf from the monastery library, and more. The album was presented as a gift to Israel Fogel, Schweig's friend, with a handwritten dedication by Schweig, "…in memory of a non-military operation…", dated 1958. At the end of the album: Photographs: S.Y. Schweig, Jerusalem." Eleven 17x12cm photographs and a photographed map (two photographs are missing). Very good condition. Album 28cm, good condition.
