V. Lenepveu, 30 And après!. France, [1899-1900].
“30 years later” – poster in lithographic print, in which Dreyfus is depicted strangling and raping a woman.
This poster is part of a series of Musée des Horreurs posters – "the monstrosity exhibitions", which portrays Dreyfus and his supporters in a grotesque and animalistic manner.
The posters were first published in autumn 1899 upon the opening of the world fair in Paris, and after Dreyfus’s retrial. The posters were advertised weekly and the entire series includes 51 posters, in which Dreyfus, Émile Zola, George Fikar and others appear. All posters were designed and signed by an artist under the pen name V. Lenepveu. After a year, advertisement of the series of posters was halted by instruction of the Ministry of Interior.
The following poster is signed by the same artist as the other posters in the series, however, it does not belong to the famous series and differs in its content and design: the name of the series appears only on the bottom in small letters and in contrast to the other posters, in which an animal with the head of a human appears, this poster portrays the rape scene.
We were unable to find this poster in the collections which contain the “complete” series.
71X55.5 cm. Very good condition, glued upon linen fabric for exhibition and preservation.
