Rabbi of Ponevezh - Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahanman (1886-1969), studied at the Telz Yeshivah and with the Chafetz Chaim in Radin. Served as Rabbi in Widzh and Ponevezh. Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Shneur Kotler, Head of the Lakewood Yeshiva. 1963.
This letter, which was sent to Rabbi Fishel Gilernter [one of the leaders of the “Chinukh Ha-‘atzmai] in Israel, had been written a few months after the passing of the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler z”l [the author’s father] during the month of Kislev 1963. The letter contains important and unknown details on his father’s legacy. [Rabbi Shneur Kotler was the head of the Lakewood Yeshiva, one of the leaders of the Mo’etzet Gdolei Hatorah in America and of the “Merkaz Hachinukh Ha-‘atzmai” in Israel].
“My sister, Rebbetzin T. is planning a short visit to Israel to take care of the editing of [my father’s] writings and their arrangement for publishing…”.
[It should be mentioned that ultimately it took several years to edit Rabbi Aharon Kotler’s writings and they were printed only from 1976, whereas it appears from this letter that Rabbi Shneur believed the editing and publishing process was in its final stages…].
Air missive, 22x19 cm. Good condition, filing holes and folding marks.
