Arvei Nachal – Collection of Editions – 1835-1905
Collection of editions of Arvei Nachal by R. David Shlomo Eibeshitz, Rabbi of Soroca, printed between 1835-1904.
• Arvei Nachal, Parts I-II. Sudylkiv: David Madpis, 1835. Second edition. Two volumes. Missing title page of second volume, and several additional leaves at the end of the volume. This edition contains many omissions due to censorship. For a detailed list of omissions see: Ch. Lieberman, Ohel Rachel, I, New York 1980, pp. 372-373.
• Arvei Nachal, Parts I-II. [Krotoszyn?: no printer indicated, ca. 1850]. On title page: "In Amsterdam type, 1883". Place and year of printing based on Y. D. Veler, "Editions of Levushei Serad and Arvei Nachal", Zechor LeAvraham Torah anthology, 1991, p. 104 (Hebrew). The Krotoszyn edition is mentioned on the title page of the Lviv, 1855 edition, where the printer writes that the Sudylkiv and Krotoszyn editions "lack many passages".
• Arvei Nachal, Parts I-II. [Lviv: E. Winiarz, 1855]. In some copies, as in the present one, the place and year of printing and name of the printer are omitted. On the title page, the printer writes that "this book is printed letter for letter from the book that was first printed from the manuscript of the author in Mohyliv".

The author, R. David Shlomo Eibeshitz (1755-1814, Encyclopedia LaChassidut, I, pp. 501-503), a leading Chassidic rabbi and prominent posek, Rabbi of Soroca. In 1809, he moved to Safed, Eretz Israel, where he is buried. His relative, R. Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, writes of him in his approbation, "As sharp and proficient in all areas of Torah as one of the ancients, and all his deeds are for the sake of heaven". He wrote many works, including his renowned Halachic composition Levushei Serad. Arvei Nachal became one of the foundational Chassidic works. Since its first publication, the book has been printed in over twenty editions.
