A dozen reduced-size photographs printed on cardboard: eleven reduced-size photographs of portraits by Dr. Max Louis Rossvally and an additional photograph of "Shma Israel" blessing. Published by W.W. Hoyt, New-York, [1879].
Rossvally depicts in the photographs various Jewish customs, such as: holding a Lulav, Kaparot, blowing a Shofar, and more.
Dr. Max Louis Rossvally (1828-1892) was born in Germany as Mordechai Rosenthal. He immigrated to the United States in his youth and joined the army as a surgeon. While serving as a military doctor during the Civil War he met an injured Christian soldier who left a deep impression on him. After the war, he converted to Christianity and founded a Jewish-Christian Association in New-York.
A dozen miniature photographs printed on cardboard. Size 16.5X10.5 cm. Good condition. Stains.
