Album of the lands of the Bible, 50 original views of important places mentioned in scripture, drawn from nature by Johann Martin Bernatz. Stuttgart-Leipzig: J.L. Steinkopf, 1858. English, German and French.
Album with 50 color lithograph-plates, illustrations of the lands of the Bible, created by Johann Martin Bernatz (1802-1878), a landscape painter who traveled through Eretz Israel and the vicinity in 1836. Accompanied by texts in English, German and French by Gotthilf Heinrich von Schubert and J. Roth. An impressive lithograph is bound at the end of the book – a map of Eretz Israel and the vicinity with enlarged illustrations of Jerusalem and the Old City. An additional illustration appears on the first leaf.

The postcards, most of which are after paintings by Hermann Junker (1838-1899), portray Jewish soldiers near Metz during the France-Prussia war (1870). Some are numbered. 3 postcards appear in two copies. Handwritten comments appear on some of the postcards.

Provenance: Sassoon Family Collection.
