11 photographs documenting the hijacking of bus 300. Israel, April 1964.
Photographer: Shmuel Rachmani (stamped with the photographer's stamp). Two of the photographs are stamped "Banned" on verso (Hebrew stamp of the press censor).
The photographs document the hours close to the end of the incident of the hijacking of bus 300, which was on its way from Tel-Aviv to Ashkelon with dozens of passengers who were held hostage after the bus was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists.
The "Bus 300 Affair" received much attention after it was discovered that despite official reports about the four terrorists being killed during the takeover operation, actually two of them were captured alive and were killed later, by the instruction of the chief of the General Security Services. Due to newspaper reporting, the affair was exposed. Especially remembered is the photograph taken by Alex Levac, published by "Hadashot".
One of the photographs in this collection also depicts a rare picture of one of the terrorists alive (on its verso appears the stamp of the press censor, "Banned"). The other photographs document the hours after the incident – the area of the bus takeover, soldiers by the bus, freed hostages, and more.
Size varies, 9X14.5 cm to 12.5X17.5 cm. Good overall condition. Stamps, writing and printing instructions on their verso.
