A four-chapter book about Sephardic Jewish families. The first two chapters are an English translation of the book "Israël en de Volken" [Israel and the Nations] by Isaac da Costa (1798-1860), a Jewish-Dutch poet and author who converted to Christianity. The last two chapters, by Bertram Brewster and Cecil Roth, focus on the Capadose Family, prior to and after their conversion to Christianity.
The book contains 43 picture-plates in black and white and one plate in color, depicting people as well as objects and documents from the collection of the Capadose family. Each picture is accompanied by a tissue guard with a caption.
VI pp, [2] leaves, 219 pp + XLIV plates (bound among the plates are unpaginated tissue guards), 31.5 cm. Good condition. Stains. Creases at margins. Deleted ink stamps to first and last leaf. Slight stains and damage to binding. Lacking the printed dust jacket.
