Cheque from the Mayor of New York, instructing the treasurer to pay Mordechai Manuel Noah the amount of 156 US Dollars. New York, 1827.
Mordechai Manuel Noah was a Jewish-American journalist, diplomat, playwright and judge, who planned to establish a Jewish refuge in the United States. He bought land in the north of the Unites States where he founded the refuge which he named "Ararat". His vision failed and Jews did not rush to the country of Ararat.
