Olam Katan was the first paper in Hebrew for children, except for some early attempts during the 19th century. A total of seven issues were published. The paper was published as an irregular supplement to Eliezer Ben Yehuda's papers "Hazvi" and "Ha-Or", and was meant to present to Jewish school children "stories, songs, fables, riddles, science and history, written according to children's spirit and understanding". The editors were active writers and they were joined by I.M. Pines, Yitzchak Epstein, David Shuv and Nechama Pochachevski, as well as activists such as Menashe Meirovich, Meir Dizengoff and more.
