The colophone on last page reads: "printed by Christophe Plantin…..and completed in 1565…"
Plantin, of the most important printers in the 16th century. Shortly before printing the bible, Plantin established a partnership with Bombergy family that developed the Hebrew printing letters.
The first letter of each of the bible's books is set in a decorated frame. Fine engravings decorate the Song of Songs, "Ketuvim" and Tehilim books.
Many handwritten comments in English and Latin as well as markings of chapters and verses.
This edition was printed in three formats: 2° 4° 8°, while the order of printing lines is the only difference between the editions – the copy herewith is from the middle edition [see also next item].
3-236, [1] leaves, (missing: title page, 2 additional leaves and last plain leaf). 22.5cm. Wide margins. Good-fair condition, tears to borders of leaves, moisture marks and slight moth damages. Binding torn and detached. Most leaves in good condition
