Portfolio with one hundred lithographs by Hermann Struck - portraits of World War I war prisoners - and a booklet by the German anthropologist Felix von Luschan. Copy no. 30 out of a deluxe edition printed in fifty copies. The front cover of the booklet and the 100 lithographs are signed by Struck. Vellum Portfolio with gilt embossings.
In 1915 Struck joined the German army as a volunteer. First he served as an interpreter and censor, and later was transferred to the Russian front where he was in charge of Jewish affairs. During the years 1915-1916 Struck created portraits of prisoners in German camps, with the authorization and support of the German General Staff. In his work he documented different "types" of prisoners. For this project he turned to anthropologist Felix von Luschan who created a classification method for people by skin color and researched the "Physical Anthropology of Jews". The results of this joint project were compiled in this portfolio.

Stains and tears to paper cover of the lithographs. The booklet: stains to cover and to first and last leaves, creases to bottom corners of the leaves and small tears to margins of last leaf. Slight stains and defects to portfolio. Closing bands of the portfolio are missing.
