The book opens with a printed dedication by Herz Imber to Judge Mayer Sulzberger (English), foreword by Joseph Jacobs and a poem by George Alexander Kohut "for Naphtali Herz Imber".

He worked diligently on the translation at an old age, while staying in New-York. At the time he was penniless and lived on a monthly allowance donated by Judge Mayer Sulzberger, to whom he dedicated this book.
