Rabbi Naftali Hirsh Katzenelenbogen, a leading Ashkenazi rabbi who was Av Beit Din of Schwabach and son-in-law of Rabbi Ya'akov HaCohen Popresh, author of Shev Ya'akov. He served as Av Beit Din of Mergentheim and its region and in 1763 was appointed Rabbi of Paltinat. He was one of the foremost rabbis to support Rabbi Yisrael LIfshitz in the Divorce of Kliva affair. In his later years, he moved to Manheim and taught Torah there for more than 30 years until his death in 1800. His nephew is Rabbi Naftali Hirsch Katzenelenbogen, author of Sha’ar Naftali, Av Beit Din of Frankfurt am Oder and chief rabbi of the Upper Reine (see item 378)
