Letter Regarding Establishment of a Hospital in Hebron, Carried by the Emissary Rabbi Saliman Menachem Mani

Opening: $4,500
Unsold
Letter carried by the emissary Rabbi Saliman Menachem Mani, [Chief Rabbi of Hebron], who was on mission in India and China. Hebron, [ca.1910]. Hebrew and English.
The letter deals with collecting funds for the establishment of a hospital, even though the main subject of the fundraising mission is hidden – to save young men from being recruited into the Turkish army. The rabbis of the city signed the bill: Rabbi Rabino Meir Franko and Rabbi Rabino Chanoch Chasson. Three ink-stamps.
On the back side of the leaves there are many handwritten notes: a list of letters sent to various countries and different bills [partly private bills].
Rabbi Saliman Menachem Mani (1850-1924) was born in Baghdad to his father Rabbi Eliyahu Mani, author of "Siach Yitzchak". Son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Ferrara. Member of the Sdei Chemed's Beit-Din and his successor as Rabbi of Hebron.
Rabbi Rabino Meir Franko (1866-1930), faithful assistant of the "Sdeh Chemed" and one of the Dayanim in his Beit-Din. Served as Community Rabbi in Hebron. His Torah thoughts were printed in his father's book "Sha'arei Rachamim" and in "Torah Mi-Tzion" and "Ha-Meassef".
Rabbi Rabino Chanoch Chasson was born in Hebron in 1867, and was killed with his wife in the Hebron Massacre. The rioters burnt his writings.
