A Magnificent Elijah's Chair – Gilded Wood

A tall Elijah's Chair ["Kiseh Eliyahu"]. [First half of 20th cent].
Wood, painted in gold; velvet covered seat.
This monumental chair is made in a folkloristic craftsmanship fashion, in a neo-Baroque style with wood openwork in dense vegetal designs. In the chair's center appears the inscription "Zeh Hakiseh shel Eliyahu HaNavih" [This is Elijah's Chair]; carved birds on both sides of the inscription. A Star of David in a vegetal frame appears on the top of the chair. Two bending lions are craved on both arm rests. Legs are curved. Red velvet upholstery on arm rests and seat.
Height: 2 meters, max. width: 72 cm, depth: 74 cm. Several cracks to wood, paint flaking, loose parts and some repairs with glue.
