Inscription in handwriting of author “to Yeshiva of holy city of Hebron”. Lengthy erudite glosses handwritten and signed by rabbi of Hebron “HaCharif [Rabbi Rachamim Yosef Franco] author of Sha’arei Rachamim”.
The Charif – Rabbi Rachamim Yosef Franco, born in Rhodes in 1835 , immigrated to Jerusalem in 1868 and was member of Beit Din of Rabbi Ya’akov Shaul Eliashar. Sent as rabbinical emissary to Europe; Constantinople and Vienna. In Vienna was invited to interview by King Franz Joseph I. In 1878 was appointed as chief rabbi of Hebron. Passed away in 1901 and was succeeded by the Sdeh Chemed. Authored: Sha’arei Rachamim, Ot Rachamim, VaYitzbor Yosef and more.
