Had Gadya - Embroidered Tapestry - Shmuel Ben-David
Opening: $25,000
Unsold
Had Gadya. Embroidered tapestry.
Large and impressive tapestry: embroidery work with combinations of velvet. The name of the liturgical poem "Had Gadya" appears on the lower part and on the frame. The letters are woven into each other in a characteristic "Bezalel" style.
The tapestry has a longish shape and depicts the story of "Had Gadya" in an artistic, original and lively manner: G-d is presented as a black sun, under the sun appears the Angel of Death, the slaughterer preparing to slaughter the ox, under it the ox with his legs in water, the fire, stick, dog, cat and the kid. In the center of the lowest part: the father with a long beard and ear locks - holding the kid in his hand.
Not signed.
134X48 cm. Fair-good condition. Several damages and tears. In a frame 157.5X66.5 cm.
