Passover Haggadah. The religious company. [Religious Company of the Combat Corps]. Ben-Shemen, 1948.
The Ben-Shemen Youth Village and Moshav were besieged and attacked during the entire War of Independence period. In March 1948 the fighters of the Religious Company of the Combat Corps Tel Aviv [the Haganah Combat Corps] were summoned to Ben-Shemen. Supplies were provided by a light "Primus" plane. On the eve of Pesach 1948 the siege was tightened and the soldiers did not know whether Passover Haggadot would be delivered. The members of the company hurried to type the Haggadah presented here on a typewriter and duplicate it. The Haggadah opens with: "This ג€˜Haggadah' was written due to a shortage of Haggadot in the Ben-Shemen base. The siege made it impossible to obtain 'Haggadot'". At the end: "At the time when we were writing the final lines of this ג€˜Haggadahג€™, on the afternoon before Pesach, a plane arrived which brought us Haggadot. Therefore let this ג€˜Haggadahג€™ be a remembrance of the deliberations of the company in the Ben Shemen base, Pesach 1948."
"Operation Dany" on July 11, by Kiryati Brigade forces ended the siege on Ben Shemen. This Haggadah remains as testimony to the siege on Ben Shemen.
On the reverse of the fourth leaf, one of the soldiers noted, by hand, updates about current affairs in Israel and in the world, which he probably heard on the radio: "The Police building in Manshiyya was (deserted) abandoned", "treaty between Russia and Holland was confirmed", "A food supply convoy passed yesterday to Mount Scopus", and more. [5] leaves typewritten and stenciled, 33.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, minor tears at borders. Folded in half.
