Letter of the Lubavitcher Rebbe – Tevet, 1966 – Advice and Guidance on a Shidduch
Letter of Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Brooklyn, New York, 26 Tevet, 1966.
Typewritten on the Rebbe's official stationery, and signed by the secretary R. Shalom Menachem Mendel Simpson – "in the name of the Rebbe", with a word added and corrections in pen (in the Rebbe's hand?).
Advice and guidance on a suggested Shidduch with a Jew who had just begun to observe Torah and mitzvot: "…The principle in this case is that the said person should observe Torah and mitzvot in daily life, and if for whatever reason there was a past deficiency in this, and he recognizes it as a deficiency, he should begin immediately to observe Torah and mitzvot in daily life, irrespective of the resolution of the Shidduch, since this behavior must be because the Torah is that of the creator of the world and the maker of man… And only after his behavior in the aforesaid manner has been made clear… can a decision be made as to the Shidduch".
At the end of the letter, the secretary notes that her issue was brought to the Rebbe with urgency, without waiting in line.
