In the letter, Teller notes that he recently visited Israel, discussed its energy problems with his friend, scientist Yuval Ne'eman, and even noticed with concern the disagreements in the Israeli society, after witnessing a demonstration in Tel-Aviv against the Lebanon War: "during my visit I was deeply saddened by the violent disagreement within Israel itself".
