Hanging Shabbat Lamp – "Judenstern" - Germany

Opening: $250
Unsold
Hanging Shabbat lamp. [Germany, end of 19th century or early 20th century].
Cast brass.
The lamp has six star-shaped oil containers (wired) and a hanging bowl for draining the oil. Attaches to the lamp, a long rack shaped like a sharp saw [for shortening or lengthening], upon which the lamp hung.
The star arrangement of cornets in the center of the lamp was known by the name of "The Jewish Star" ("Judeshtern"). This type was used by Jews and non-Jews alike; the Jews continued using the lamps also when they were not in fashion anymore, and thus the name.
Maximum height (with hanging rack): 80 cm.
