Holy Ark with a Torah scroll inside and a "hand" [pointer] for a Torah scroll, miniature. Made by Libreria Kaplansky, Buenos Aires, 1920s-1930s.
Wood; fabric; paper; silver.
Holy Ark mounted on rectangular base standing on four round wooden legs. Shaped like the Tablets of Law and on its front are colorful illustrations of a menorah, Stars of David and the Ten Commandments - illustrated and hand-painted (some of the ornamentation is etched into the wood). When open, decorations of lions and plants can be seen on the inner part of the doors and Stars of David and a pair of hands during the Priests' Blessing, as well. The inner side is cushioned with red fabric and inside the Ark is a printed Torah scroll rolled on two "atzei chaim" (made of wood) and placed inside a Torah cover made of pink fabric, with ornamentation. The Torah scroll is tied with a golden string. Attached to the Torah scroll and the ark is a miniature "hand" [pointer] (possibly made of silver, unstamped).
The Holy Ark: height: 28 cm, width including base: 18 cm, depth of base: 10 cm; the Torah scroll: 16 cm (including atzei chaim); the "hand": 5 cm. Overall good condition. Minor damage and stains.

Elaborate leather binding, in honor of 25th anniversary of the opening of the Beit Knesset in Lֳ¼beck. Architectural engraving: the model of the Beit Knesset is engraved between two pillars and an arch in a round frame, above the engraved inscription: "Mai 26, 1882-1907". Enclosed is a festive issue of the newspaper Mitteilungen aus der Israelitischen Gemeinde Lֳ¼beck dedicated to 25th anniversary of the Beit Knesset. Its photograph appears at the top of the issue. Binding 42x32 cm, overall good condition. Damage to spine and inner part of binding. The enclosed newspaper is in fair condition, foxing and file holes.

Enclosed with the case is a small portrait photograph of a girl from the Patkin family, with her name in Russian and Chinese. The case was used by Jews from Russian origin who lived in China.

Charity box to place on a table or hang on a wall, of the "Gemilat Chesed" association in the city of Budapest. At the top is a brass plaque with illustration of Jewish Orthodox hospital on Vֳ¡rosmajor Street, which was burnt along with its inhabitants and destroyed by the Nazis during World War II. Above illustration appears the inscription: "Bpesti orth. Chevra" and "Gemilat Chesed"; below illustration appears the inscription: "Adakozzunk jֳ³tֳ©kony intֳ©zmֳ©nyֳ¼nkre" [Assist us with donations for our charitable institutions].
Height: 17.5 cm., width: 9 cm. Fair-good condition.

Upright seven branched menorah. Hungary, 19th century.
Cast bronze.
Decorated with olive branches between branches of menorah. At menorah center is a memory plaque inscribed with: 1848/9ג€¦ Elhullottak Hֳ¡t a hֵ‘sֳ¶kג€¦" and in Hebrew "Eich naflu giborim" (How did the mighty fall), above the writing is an illustration of a lion (symbol of might). On reverse side of plate, embossed decoration of Tablets of Law and a Star of David. At menorah's base inscription: Hm. Tֳ¡bori Rabbinֳ¡tus. In the framework of the "spring of nations" in 1848, the Hungarian revolution erupted in Hungary as well, against the Austrian Imperial House that ruled Hungary. During the revolution, the revolutionists attempted to establish a self-governing country but after a number of battles with the Austrian army, assisted by the Russian Tsar's army as well, the revolution was subdued. Many Jews who supported the revolutionists were killed in these battles. This menorah was made in their memory.
