An Album of Photographs – The Training of IDF Soldiers during the Israeli War of Independence – Late 1940s

Opening: $200
Unsold
An album with approx. 55 photographs documenting the training of new IDF soldiers during the War of Independence. [Israel, late 1940s].
Presumably, the album had belonged to a soldier in an IDF basic training camp during the war and it contains an interesting documentation of the training, weapons and uniforms of the IDF soldiers during this period. The photographs depict: soldiers signing a form with their entrance to the camp, shooting training with a Karabiner 98 kurz rifle, training lesson with a Bren machine gun, soldiers watching from the roofs "in face of an aerial attack of the enemy", members of Gachal (Recruitment from Abroad) arriving to the camp, Hebrew lessons, fitness training and sports competitions, parades and roll calls, singing and dancing in the camp, and more.
The photographs are mounted to the leaves of the album (two photographs are detached) and covered with tissue guards. Some of them are captions by hand (Hebrew). Some are stamped on verso: "T. Brauner, Tel Aviv" (Teddy Brauner?).
Size of photographs: approx. 8.5X19 cm. (some of them are larger or smaller). Good condition. Size of album: 23X33 cm. Minor blemishes to leaves. Creases, stains and tears to tissue guards. The binding is slightly worn.
Provenance: The Rimon Family Collection.
