Hanukkah lamp. Israel, [ca. 1950].
Cast brass. Marked: “Hand Made in Israel” (on back of arch and on bottom of servant light).
Early Israeli Hanukkah lamp, with rounded oil pan and with eight small holes for insertion of the wicks, and with a large opening for refilling oil. The servant light is in the shape of a small ancient oil lamp with a handle; it serves as the lid that covers the opening to the oil pan. A boomerang-shaped arch surmounts the top of the oil pan. Three scenes are depicted on the surface of this arch: a farmer sowing in the field, a woman planting a sapling, and a man pounding an anvil.
The design of this Hanukkah lamp strongly brings to mind Israeli Hanukkah lamps created by Ze’ev Raban and produced by the companies Pal-Bell and Zel Zion.
Height: 12.5 cm. Width: 15 cm. Good condition.
