Estate archive of Carolina Calabi, including approximately 1,000 leaves, mostly handwritten: Letters, official documents, notarized certificates, bills, estate regulations, etc. Verona, 1850-1917.
The archive includes a large amount of material related to the Jewish community of Verona, the community in Manitoba, and to the various Jewish organizations in Verona: Bikur Cholim, the new synagogue, school and orphanage. It also includes a handwritten play called “Moshe” (20 pages in Italian, signed Cesare Levetti).
A few of the letters have stamps, wax seals and post office ink stamps from the period.

1. Letter from 1939, asking for monetary aid from the community. Due to laws enacted against the Jews, the writer of the letter was in severe financial distress, and he was asking for help in order to make aliya.
2-3. Letters from 1942, asking for financial aid. A woman who had been working for 15 years in the Jewish community of Budapest requests for aid for the wedding of her daughter, the date of which had already been set. The request is identical in both letters.
