"Program No. 6, HaKumkum, Eretz-Israeli Satiric Theater, play for everybody - Cheap prices". "M. Shoham" printing press, Jaffa, 1927.
Advertising poster for a performance in Beit-Ha'am in Tel-Aviv, on 29.1.1928.
"HaKumkum" theater was the first satiric theater in Palestine. Founded in 1927 by the author Avigdor Hameiri, the artists Eliezer Donáth and Pesach Ir-Shay, and a small team of five actors. A few months after its opening, a number of the actors retired due to misunderstandings with Hameiri, and they founded a competing theater - "HaMatateh". "HaKumkum" performed several more times with a substitute team, and in 1929, less than two years after its foundation, it closed permanently.
Apparently, the poster was designed by Pesach Ir-Shay - who also designed the logo of "HaKumkum" - and designed many of the theater's posters with Eliezer Donáth.
Approx. 95X32 cm. Poor condition. Folding marks, creases and stains. Small pinholes, tears and open tears, some large (mainly at left margin, not affecting illustration or text).
