Notebooks of novellae and discourses from Rashei Yeshivot of Lithuania and more [1920s-1930s]. Two of the notebooks are on tractate Kiddushin. There is a title in the middle of one of the pages: "Belongs to the classes given by Rabbi Chaim of Telz on Tractate Kiddushin, on halachic means of acquisition". Probably, both notebooks are notes taken on the classes of Rabbi Chaim of Telz. The notebook about laws of witnesses was written by a younger person [judging by the handwriting]. There is also a notebook dealing with laws of acquisition by exchange, from "The Rabbi of Tabrik – here in Bogorodsk".
There is an inscription on the cover of one notebook, reading "novellae and comments on Tractate Bava Metzia – By אדב"ר בן רת"ל, 1920, Sertov." Only half a leaf remains from that notebook. It is possible that all notebooks were written by the same author, one during his youth, and the others while he was moving from place to place during World War One, in Bogorodsk k and Sertov.
Rabbi Chaim Rabinowitz of Telz (1860-1931, Otzar 6156) was one of the founders of the Telz method of learning, which focuses on use of logic and clear understanding. His novellae, and notes on his classes, were passed around in all Lithuanian yeshivot. "Hidushei Rabbi Chaim Mi-Telz" are books used in the yeshiva world until this very day.
The Rabbi of Tabrig – Rabbi Avraham Aharon Bornstein (1867-1926, Otzar 937) was a well-known prodigy and scholar. He was known for his diligence and brilliant insights on the whole Talmud. He served in the rabbinate of various Lithuanian cities. The remains of his novellae were published as "Ner Aharon".
Approximately four notebooks. 46 leaves. 22 cm. Varying conditions, mostly fair.

Manuscript of composition on the Torah, on Job, Megillot and haftarot, according to the book Midrash HaBeur by Rabbi Sa'adia ben David, one of Yemen's early Sages. [Copied in approx. 1930].
Jewish Arabic. Nice script of Yemenite calligrapher and copier. This manuscript contains translation to Hebrew, between the lines, on many of the pages, in late handwriting (1960).
Enclosed are papers in later handwriting, containing long parts of the book in its Hebrew translation, written several decades ago.
The owner's name is written on the back cover page: Avraham ??, ritual slaughterer of Yemenite Colony.
Midrash HaBe'ur was written by Rabbi Sa'adia ben David Aldamari, who was one of Yemen's early sages [lived in 1441]. The book is built in format typical of Yemenite midrashic works - with anthology of Chazal's midrashim, such as Yalkut Shimoni, together with commentaries of the author and his teachers. Many of the midrashim which appear in this book, have been otherwise lost, and appear only here.
In various places, the translators and editors crossed out names and honorary titles. For example, at the end of Parshat Mas'ei, they crossed out the words "Rabbi Netanel ben Yeshayahu quoted from Midrash HaBe'ur by Rabbi Sa'adia". It is possible that the purpose of doing so was to eliminate the copier's additions (of Rabbi Sa'adia and Rabbi Netanel's names) from the body of the text.
746 pages, 27 cm. Very good condition. Leather cover, decorated in Yemenite fashion, scuffed and slightly torn.
Another 17 leaves of Hebrew translation are enclosed, in good-fair condition.
